Spoilers will occur throughout the review.
Super Paper Mario is the third 2.5 D tale in the Paper Mario series. Your flat-as-a-pancake Mario all over again. But this time, the game has changed quite a bit. For example, in the last two games, Mario got partners tha were all different species that he would never see again. Not this time. He's got familiar faces, Peach, Bowser, and Luigi, following him. BOWSER!? He hasn't teamed up with him in a good RPG since SMRPG!
I will divide this review into two parts: #/10 parts and a the written review.
PART 1: Scoring
Graphics: OK, do I need to say anything? Yes, I do. You're probably saying "It's 2-D!!!" well, it's more. It's 2-D and 3-D, at the same time. At the push of a button, your running around straight instead of side-to-side. Not to mention, animation was great. +1 for being purposely 2-D. 9/10.
Sound: KOJI KONDO! Any game with this guy is sure to be good. And this was no exception. He made great remixes of some classic Mario tunes and through in some character theme songs that fit in perfectly with them. 10/10.
Story: A prophecy telling that all of the worlds will be sucked into a dimensional rift! Though rather darkened for the Paper Mario series, such as Bowser supposedly getting crushed to death, the story is nifty how it fits in with the "four heroes". 8/10.
Characters: In my last evaluation, I mentioned the "Four Heroes". Mario, Peach, Bowser, and Luigi. It is quite funny how these four meet the standards describe in the book of lost prophecies. 9/10.
Gameplay: From 2-D to 3-D in one touch of a button, unique items and characters, and little mini games that are secrets needing to be found, Super Paper Mario is quite an entertaining game. However, it did do some defeating of the other Paper Mario games tradition. For example, they have gotten rid of proper partners and replaced them with pixls that do one thing, and your character that does another. Also, turn based fights (yes its true) have been gotten rid of. +1 for 2-D 3-D play, -1 for breaking tradition. 8/10.
PART 2: Written Review
Super Paper Mario: another Mario RPG is released. AND for the Wii! This game can be played endlessly, just repeating worlds again and again. There can be quite stumping parts, but once you get the challenge, you will go "Oh, right!" Believe me. Count Bleck will be waiting for you with his minions. Once you make it to his castle, its time to fight. But there is a HUGE plot flip-flop that is so HUGE I can't list it here! All I can say is, be ready for a fight after Bleck! This great game gets a 47/50 in this part of the review!
So, that adds up to a...
91/100. A-!
