Top games

Final Fantasy X
PS2 Console Info - Pro Gaming -The Gaming Revolution ©
It was once among the top twenty best-selling console games of all time, selling 6.6 million units worldwide and was also voted by the readers of the Japanese video game magazine Famitsu to be the greatest video game of all-time.

Set in the fantasy world of Spira, the game's story centers around a group of adventurers and their quest to defeat a rampaging force known as "Sin".

Final Fantasy X is also the first game in the series to feature a wide range of realistic facial expressions, as well as other technological developments in graphical effects achieved, such as variance in lighting and shadow from one section of a character's clothing to the next

Final Fantasy X is also the first in the series to feature voice-over actors, as well as the first to spawn a direct sequel, Final Fantasy X-2.
Final Fantasy X is presented in third-person perspective.

In line with previous titles in the series, players are given the opportunity to develop and improve their characters by defeating enemies and acquiring items, though the traditional experience point system was replaced by a new system called the "Sphere Grid". The game was initially going to feature online elements, but these were dropped during production, and online multiplayer gaming would not become part of the Final Fantasy series until Final Fantasy XI.

Gran Turismo 3: A-spec

PS2 Console Info - Pro Gaming -The Gaming Revolution ©Gran Turismo 3 features new elements to the series, such as oil changes. As the distance travelled on the motor oil accumulates, the vehicle engine's performance degrades gradually, until a notice light is lit on the dashboard during gameplay, signaling that an oil change is needed.

The Gran Turismo Mode has a reorganized layout, with a more structured and progressive arrangement of races and challenges. Races vary from short beginner events to multi-hour endurance races and also rallying events against an opponent.

Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec is considered a commercial success for Sony in Japan, Europe, and North America. The game is the third best selling game for the Playstation 2 selling roughly 14.36 million copies.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

PS2 Console Info - Pro Gaming -The Gaming Revolution ©
Set in 1992,[5] the game revolves around the main character, Carl "CJ" Johnson returning home from Liberty City to Los Santos after learning of his mother's murder. CJ finds his family and his old gang, the Grove Street Families, in disarray. Over the course of the game, CJ gradually unravels the plot behind his mother's murder while reestablishing his
gang and exploring his own business ventures.

The core gameplay consists of elements of a third-person shooter and a driving game, affording the player a large, open environment in which to move around. On foot, the player's character is capable of walking, running, swimming (the first GTA game in which swimming is possible), climbing and jumping, as well as utilizing weapons and basic hand to hand combat. Players can steal and drive a variety of vehicles, including automobiles, boats, airplanes, helicopters, trains, tanks, motorcycles and bikes.

SSX 3

PS2 Console Info - Pro Gaming -The Gaming Revolution ©
The most obvious change to the series is the location. In earlier games, individual tracks were located around the world. In SSX 3, the entire game takes place on one mountain, with three peaks and several individual runs. Runs are designated as "race," "slopestyle,"
"super pipe," "big air," or "backcountry" tracks, and are designed accordingly. Most tracks are connected; it is possible to board through multiple individual tracks and even from the top of the mountain to the bottom without stopping.

The reward system is also revamped and improved. Although some rewards are still tied to what medals the player gets, most rewards are bought using money earned in competition or when finding hidden collectibles. Outfits, stat improvements, "cheat characters" (character models) and game art are all available.

Graphically the game is improved over previous installments by featuring a new graphics engine which adds various visual improvements such as 'Mountain effects': special effects to the game's mountain, such as thunder. Furthermore, the game is based around a "freeroaming" architecture akin to the later instalments of the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater series.

Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty

PS2 Console Info - Pro Gaming -The Gaming Revolution ©The story revolves around a massive offshore clean-up facility that has been seized by terrorists calling themselves the "Sons of Liberty." They demand a massive ransom in exchange for the life of the President of the United States, and threaten to destroy the facility and create a cataclysmic environmental disaster if their demands are not met. The motives and identities of many of the antagonists and allies change rapidly, as the heroes
discover a world-shaking conspiracy constructed by a powerful organization known as the Patriots.

In spite of controversy concerning the character of Raiden, the game was well-received publicly and critically, shipping over 7 million copies worldwide and scoring an average of 95% in Game Rankings' aggregate. Both the unprecedented length, the complexity and deeply philosophical nature of its storyline (which explores the themes of memes, reality, conspiracy, AI, censorship, human nature, among others), divided both game reviewers and the public.

Most fundamental are the wider range of skills offered to the player. The new first-person aiming mode allows players to target specific points in the game world or on their enemies, greatly expanding tactical options;guards could be blinded by steam, distracted by a flying piece of fruit or hit in key weak spots, such as radios which disables the enemy from requesting "back-up" and the head; which would result in an instant death or the soldier being put to sleep immediately, depending on whether the player was using a standard gun
or a tranquilizer gun.

Madden NFL 2005

PS2 Console Info - Pro Gaming -The Gaming Revolution ©This game featured the introduction of the "Hit Stick" to unleash hard hits and possibly dislodge the ball. The game featured a continuation of the "Playmaker" control and a
deeper franchise mode where the player's morale affects the on-field performance. It also features the Storyline Central which features all of the stories related to the player's favorite
team. Also a Create-a-fan, the user is able to create a fan based on his or her favorite team.

The game is often blamed for focusing extensively on the concept of defense to level the playing field and it makes the offense struggle at some points and make it very hard to score points. Also some graphics were unrealistic by making some players (most notably offensive lineman and defensive lineman) look very large. Also there are some free agents who are retired but still are on the list of free agents.

Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution

PS2 Console Info - Pro Gaming -The Gaming Revolution ©PS2 Console Info - Pro Gaming -The Gaming Revolution ©

A unique feature in Evolution was the ability to play in a tournament quest mode, where the concept was that the player was competing by traveling to various arcades, as opposed to role-playing as the player's chosen fighter. This mode was very popular due to the ability to buy cosmetic items to customize a character, as well as the ability to name a character. Many players of fighting games have unique styles; with the combination of various items allowing for vastly differing appearances a new depth of uniqueness was added. In addition, Sega took the top tournament players from the arcade version, and captured their style of play for the AI of a player's opponents for this mode. For example, playing against one Wolf character would be very different from playing another, because the actual player that character's AI was programmed to mimic had a unique play style.

Training mode

Virtua Fighter 4 introduced a comprehensive training mode. The mode consisted of an encyclopedia of fighting game terms, complete character command list walkthroughs, tips on all of the games mechanics, recommended character combos, alternative options for failed combos, detailed command input timings, slow motion for frame counting and timing, and other useful training tips.

VF4's training mode consists of three sections:

* Command Training- A complete run through each move, one-by-one. The command for the move is displayed and the player executes the command--moving to the next one. VF4 allows the option to skip the current command, view the move (computer controlled), enable advice.

* Free Training

* Trial Mode

Jak II

PS2 Console Info - Pro Gaming -The Gaming Revolution ©
The game features weapons and gadgets, new playable areas, and a storyline that picks up after the events of The Precursor Legacy. In the game, Haven City, a dystopia ruled under the questionable fist of Baron Praxis, is engaged in a war against a techno-organic group of
organisms known as the "Metal Heads". As in the previous game, the player takes on the dual role of recurring protagonists Jak and Daxter. There are also a new array of characters such as Torn, Krew, Kor, Ashelin, and Sig, as well as some returning ones, such as Samos and Keira.

Jak II is the only game in the series in which the versions for English-speaking regions feature the Japanese and Korean voiceover track. The voiceover cast features many notable seiyūs, including Shotaro Morikubo as Jak. The other games in the series did not follow suit, leaving the voices to be exclusive to the Japanese and Korean regions.

However, the Japanese track is not the disk for Jak and Daxter and Jak 3. This is also technically the last Jak and Daxter game to be released in Japan. Jak 3 was completely localized and dubbed in Japanese, but was not released in Japan. It is, however selectable on the Korean release of the game and will play on a Japanese PlayStation 2.
